Unfortunately, not yet. Richard Hyman, a strategic retail adviser to Deloitte told the newspaper: The consumer faces a number of headwinds in 2010, including rising unemployment, higher taxes and larger National Insurance contributions. Over the past couple of years, the 50 year old Dutchman has portrayed something of his work ethic through the highlighted in interviews he gave. As a high profile retailer, the M& S brand is classified as one of the top retail brands in the UK. Where the challenge at Morrisons was to improve an unknown brand, Bolland will now be expected to maintain and expand an already fantastic brand. Fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) such as basic food items, toiletries and essential electrical appliances might not experience the downturn as badly as luxury items would. He brought in fresh food, pasta and bread, improved over 12,000 products and re launched many of them. During the last three years the former Heineken Chief gave 410 Morrisons stores a complete makeover.
Not only is the company known for its quality food items, but also its celebrated clothing line; something Bolland has no experience in. The majority of households spend their money on the bare minimum. Lower sales equal fewer production and manufacturing, which in turn contributes to job losses. The Independent reported that several analysts believe 2010 will still be a tricky year for retail. But luckily, figures stabilised and Bolland can stand proud as out going head of a grocer that has increased its customer numbers by 20 in just two years. Bolland promoted the grocers focus on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and as a result the company has won numerous green awards. He did this through showing the journalists his fresh pasties and vegetables in store. But his time at Morrisons One Way Shower Curtain Rod for sale isnt over yet and he commented to being committed to Morrisons up to the last minute. The company also boasts with a customer total of 10. A Retail Hero Marc Bolland joined Morrisons in 2006 at an extremely demanding time. Here today, gone tomorrow.46m jobless total, consumer confidence has taken a knock. I have really enjoyed my time at Morrisons and have had a terrific three years, he commented. . In retail anything can happen.
The news of his move first set Morrisons market share back with 400m.After three years at Morrisons as chief executive, Marc Bolland will replace Sir Stuart Rose in the top job at Marks & Spencer. These three benefits results in bigger, more stable cash flows and create substantial shareholder value. Now more than ever, retail brands need to stand out from the rest through great prices for excellent items underpinned by good customer service. According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS), sales in October increased with 3. It was during the period when the grocer took over Safeway and needed to merge the two brands in a state of flux. That is the kind of man Marc Bolland is. Bolland spent 18 years at the beer giant Heineken and after such successes at Morrisons in merely three years, it is a shame to see him move on so quickly.8m per week. Mark Bollands successes with Morrisons illustrate how one man can perk up an entire brand, but not the economy fingers crossed that Bollands success will follow him to M& S. In one on ones with Management Today, Business Times Online and The Guardian, Bolland expressed his passion for freshness, food made in store and providing meals at great prices. The former Sunday Times Business Person of the Year believes in his products and loves what he does, that is the key. Bolland is also a great leader who encourages and motivates staff through visiting different stores and expressing his gratitude towards their hard work.3 improvement in like for like sales in their quarterly results.5 per cent next year. Brand Power Due to the turbulent economy today and the UKs 2. They give a business value through enjoying stronger revenue growth, providing more sustainable gross margins and exhibiting less systematic business risks. As a result of these factors, we expect retail sales to take a slight fall of 1. According to David Muir, CEO at WPP and co author of The Business of Brands, brand power is extremely important.
Although the retail hero is leaving Morrisons, he is doing so with a bang! The grocer has unveiled a 9 increase in total sales and 4. Chantl du Plooy investigates what retail success looks like and how to achieve it. The last year has seen the closure of stores from some high profile retail brands, such as; around 850 Woolworths stores, 570 Morgan stores and 100 Adams stores. Justifying his upcoming shift to M& S, Bolland commented that it was an opportunity which he couldnt miss out on. It is apparent that this Flying Dutchman is driven by a challenge and M& S will provide him with stacks to get his teeth into. The vicious circle of a recession. With Christmas and New Year around the corner, retail is starting to show signs of improvement

The opening of the web of steel beam and hot-rolled wide flange beam are two of the most accepted in the metal engineering. It is important to have a detailed analysis of the characteristics of each approach to the development of steel. Bending movements are witnessing structural beam, while the closures on developing devices articulated. High tensile strength metal is used in this setting that results in an excellent strength-to-weight percentage using beams that are open-webbed. Girder beams can be used positively to companies that include a larger area in the building longer combined with lights..Most other cantilevered beam technique is particularly satisfying that the course. The system relies on some buttressing for the cohesion and the structure is reinforced by tubular columns or wide flange beams. This system has its flaws, however, the stability of the structure with potential difficulties and also through the strain of cold or heat, the pressure of the metal beam. There are a number of pre-engineered steel building systems for sale in today's marketplace. The beams can be formed on a large number of configurations of size or form of construction almost unlimited choices. The opening of the web of steel beam method is famous for its cost-efficiency and continuing technological developments. One of the characteristics of the two methods of continuous crossing. Exact joint planning in this setting is essential to the success of the method.
Many buildings make extensive use of metal structural advantage meticulous preparation, because the design combined with the appropriate structure assembly were used. The 10-month-old trade war between the world’s two largest economies escalated early this month., he said.Trump, incensed by a surge of illegal immigrants across the southern border, vowed on Thursday to impose a tariff on all goods coming from Mexico, threatening to further disrupt global trade flows. (Photo:AP) Shanghai: Shanghai wine importer Alex Chen has spent the last 10 days moving all his American wines – from chardonnays to zinfandels – out of warehouses in the city’s free trade zone before they are hit with an extra tariff that kicks in on Saturday. On both sides of PVC Shower curtains the Pacific, importers and exporters are scrambling as further tariffs of 15 per cent come into effect, on top of the 10 per cent duties imposed last September..China’s added tariffs on American wines would leave no margin for importers like his firm, Alexander Wine Co.1 billion, in the first quarter of 2019 versus the same period in 2018, according to the United States Department of Agriculture data.
This will go straight to the consumer and no one knows whether their buying habits will stay the same. Total US agriculture product shipments to China dropped 44 per cent, or USD 2.Stone said he and his distributors had shouldered the initial 10 per cent tariff last year.Harlan Stone, chief executive of Connecticut-based Metroflor, said he sent e-mails to his distributors to inform them of his plans to raise prices on his China-made vinyl flooring by 13.Those figures include a 45 per cent drop in US breakfast cereal shipments, and a 34 per cent decline beef imports, and a 20 per cent cut in US pork purchases.Chen figures he has stock to last three months, after which – barring an easing in the increasingly bitter US-China trade war – he plans to focus on partnerships with wine suppliers from places such as Chile or Australia. Imports of pet food dropped 35 per cent, wine and beer fell 20 per cent, and Chinese purchases of US tree nuts such as almonds dropped 47 per cent.Instead, he may work with his importer to shift supplies to Hong Kong, where wine is duty free and 2018 US exports totalled USD 130 million."The importer told us right away that due to tariffs, the next time you buy it from me, my cost is going to go up 30-40 per cent,†said Dmytro Soroka, Gusto’s operations manager. There’s Spain, there’s South America .The price going up will only make other products that we carry from different origins more interesting to our customers. Some importers in China told Reuters they were opting to source more pork and beef from countries including Argentina or Spain, as selling US products grew less competitive.Michael Honig, president of Napa Valley’s Honig Vineyard & Winery, said prior tariff increases undid 10 years of investment in China. "This will collapse the market for US wines. In 2016, his small family winery sold about 1,000 cases in China. "Over the long term, we believe the market can absorb the 10 per cent, but we know the marketplace can’t absorb the additional 15,†said Stone, who sources the luxury vinyl tile he sells in the United States from factories on China’s eastern coast. David Amadia, president of Ridge Vineyards, which sells about 2 USD of its 90,000-case production to China, said the suddenness of the latest round of retaliatory tariffs left him no time to send shipments ahead of the deadline. The new tariffs will force them to raise prices, take a further hit on margins, or, if they can, find alternatives.
There is a risk. That dropped to zero last year."And we were like, forget about that one, there are other pork suppliers out there. "That’s become the fall-back for wineries,†Amadia said.â€FINDING ALTERNATIVESThe trade war is changing the flow of global goods, with US companies shifting purchases of affected products including furniture, refrigerators and car tires to countries such as Vietnam and South Korea, analysis by S&P Global Market Intelligence’s trade data firm Panjiva showed last month.â€The 10-month-old trade war between the world’s two largest economies escalated early this month, with US President Donald Trump imposing a new round of tariffs, prompting China to respond and forcing companies in the cross-fire into a scramble to raise prices or shift strategy.5 per cent after Trump hiked tariffs on Chinese goods on May 9.Shanghai-based wholesaler Gusto Fine Foods scrapped plans to put Berkshire pork from the United States on the list of produce it offers to high-end restaurants and hotels in China last year after the tariffs hit.â€Others, such as US wine distributors with a focus on China, said they were finding it tough to be optimistic in the current climate.Chinese purchases of US products have also suffered.

Kickstarted by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the reforms include the historic decision allowing women to drive from June, attend soccer games and take on jobs that once fell outside the narrow confines of traditional gender roles.Saudi Arabia also recently annulled the "house of obedience" article in the marriage law, which grants a husband the right to summon his wife to his home against her will. The reform introduces a novel concept in married life: mutual consent. But Saudi activists say social change will only be cosmetic without dismantling the kingdom’s rigid guardianship system, which requires that women seek permission from a male relative to study, travel and other activities. The social change, catalysed in large measure by what experts characterise as economic pain owing to a protracted oil slump, has introduced a series of firsts. The decision to allow women to drive after a decades-long ban could give women the much-needed mobility to join the workforce.
But Riyadh is seeking to change that through what appears to be social engineering.Authorities appear to be slowly dismantling the many injustices against women ingrained in the law.One Saudi woman told AFP how she was stuck in limbo, unable to even renew her passport, when her father, her only male guardian, slipped into a coma after an accident. The reforms have had an unwitting consequence, observers note — competition with arch-nemesis Iran to be more liberal over women’s rights."This is not a revolution, this is evolution," Hoda al-Helaissi, a member of the advisory Shura Council, told AFP, referring to newfound social liberties.Khobar, Saudi Arabia: Mervat Bukhari, a force of nature draped head-to-toe in Islamic niqab, braved insults and taunts to become the first Saudi woman to work at a gas station, something unimaginable not long ago."Back at Bukhari’s home in neighbouring Dammam city, she embraced her youngest son Mohammed — who stood by her even as her brothers decried her gas station job as a shocking breach of tradition.Bukhari, previously employed in a junior role by the same parent company, was forced to go on the defensive, telling critics she was in a managerial position and not physically handling fuel nozzles.
"Women today have the right to do any work. But the backlash faced by women like Bukhari illustrates how newfound empowerment is a potential social lightning rod in a country unaccustomed to such visibility for women. For the first time, women are seen alongside men in jazz music concerts and in mixed-gender restaurants, as the influence of the once-feared religious police — notorious for enforcing gender segregation — appears to be waning.Government statistics also put more than one million Saudi women as currently looking to enter the workforce."It’s a rite of passage for women."Prince Mohammed’s Vision 2030 reform plan for a post-oil era seeks to elevate women to nearly one-third of the workforce, up from about 22 per cent now.But the 16-year-old prefers to hide his mother’s job from his peers, hoping to protect her from even more insults."Maybe five years from now it will be normal to see women at gas stations," he said, kissing his mother’s hand.Saudi media has championed in recent months the first woman restaurant chef, first woman veterinarian and even the first woman tour guide. When Bukhari, 43 and a mother of four, was promoted as supervisor of a gas station in eastern Khobar city last October, insults began pouring in on social media with the hashtag "Saudi women don’t work at gas stations".Women inmates are often reported to be stuck in prisons after completing their terms because they were not claimed by their guardians.Horror stories have regularly surfaced. That leaves many vulnerable to the whims of a controlling father, a violent husband or a vengeful son.Saudi women now no longer need male permission to start business."The well-known expression: ‘You are a woman, cover your face’ seems to be disappearing from our society," human rights lawyer Abdulrahman al-Lahim wrote recently in the pro-government Okaz newspaper.Saudi Arabia ranked a low of 138 out of 144 countries in the 2017 Global Gender Gap Report by the World Economic Forum on gender parity."I am a supervisor.Average monthly salaries in the private sector are close to 8,000 Saudi riyals ($2,134,1,748 euros) for men, and only 5,000 riyals for women, according to research firm Jadwa.
The reforms have seen the Saudi labour market slowly open up to women, introducing them to jobs that were once firmly the preserve of men.But women face sobering realities — despite often being better qualified than men.Tehran recently relaxed PVC Shower curtains its crackdown on women failing to wear the compulsory headscarf. I don’t fill gas myself," she reasoned, seeking to win a modicum of respectability for a job that class-conscious Saudi men disdain. The kingdom, where conservatives once bridled at even limited freedoms for women, is in the midst of reforms that mark the biggest cultural shake-up in its modern history."Saudi women are better educated, but less mobile, less employed and vastly underpaid," Karen Young, a scholar at the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington, told AFP."If I could choose between the right to drive or the right to end guardianship, I would choose the latter," a women’s activist said on the condition of anonymity

Seeing this, his wife Rati cries and begs of Lord Shiva to bring him back to life. Then appear on the backstage paintings of large sculptures of Trimurti, the three-headed God Shiva from the 6th century caves of Elephanta.During that period, Kathakali Guru Madhavan Nair was running classes in Kathakali in Mumbai.Born on August 23 in 1914, in a village named Dhamadachha on the banks of the Ambika river near Amalsad in south Gujarat, in a Brahmin family, Natavar, addressed with affection as Natu, had shown his talents for dancing and acting. He moved to Mumbai where Natu studied in the Fellowship School where he took part in folk dancing, Garbi, Dandiya raas, and also played various roles in drama. He sits in meditation.I was browsing through the colourful programme book Nataraj Vashi gave me to have a look at, telling me to wait for a while when he will be done with his client for legal advice!I had gone to interview Nataraj Vashi in his well appointed flat at Malabar Hill. The date: May 21, 1946, Monday night.Opening with the Mangalacharan, dancers Praveena, Minal and Lakshmi, in colourful costumes and attractive hairdos, a la one sees in Ajanta frescoes, offered flowers to the God presiding over the stage.
Next enters a Gandharva, a divine musician, and moves happily in heaven. Then enters Indra, the Lord of heaven, asking his charioteer Matali to summon his son Arjuna to get ready and fight with the demon Kalakeya, bringing along with him the divine weapon Pashupatastra he had won after conducting the penance of Lord Shiva. They offered salutations to the gods, placed the instruments on the stage, bowed to them and the audience asking permission to perform. His daughter, dancer Papiha Desai, asked me to write on Nataraj Vashi, who her father had worked with and knew him for his innovations, large-scale production and making a name in the United States by 1946. But his time is over and he is summoned back. Looking into the mirror, they decorate themselves with hair ornaments, apply black to the eye, place red dot kumkum on the forehead, and so on looking again and again into the mirror overcome by their own beauty. The scene changes. But the sheer acting won over the audience which burst forth into loud clapping.I looked up my dance collection and did find only two photos as the rest of the brochures and programme notes and photos are somewhere in my collection in Baroda. The dance of Shiva is performed by the principal dancer Nataraj Vashi.
There is neither a mirror, nor any ornaments. Natavar started studying Kathakali, underwent rigorous oil massages to build his body. Lord Shiva blesses her, telling her that Kamadeva will be in every human being minus the physical body, "atanau", and will be always the God of love. A violent fight took place between Kalakeya the adjustable bath and shower chair factory demon and Arjuna the warrior, resulting in the defeat of Kalakeya and Arjuna returning victorious, establishing peace in heaven.
The venue is: The Belasco Theatre, 115, West 44th street, East of Broadway, New York City. A close friend of Susheel Jhaveri and Nayana Jhaveri, my friends, Nataraj Vashi had agreed to talk about his fascinating career with me. Enter two beautiful maidens. After my article on Yog Sundar, the prince who turned into a dancer, I received several emails to write about a few more dancers from Gujarat and some who were contemporaries of Uday Shankar, Ram Gopal and Yog Sundar. The dancer appears on the stage with a damaru, a drum, and plays it with great energy. Kamadeva, the lord of love, Cupid arrives and shoots a flowery arrow to draw his attention to the beautiful maiden Parvati who is doing penance. The curtain rises and the audience is transported to the mythological world of Hindu Gods and Goddesses

The alarm bells got louder following the BJP’s dreadful performance in a string of byelections in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, states run by the Hindutva party. Farm sector woes and the plight of farmers are hitting the economy hard and throwing settled politics into turmoil. How can employment grow? A recent report of the well-regarded Centre for Monitoring the Indian Economy (CMIE) shows that it is not that employment hasn’t expanded (that would have been a sign of an economy in good health), but that, gloomily, it has decelerated and slipped into the negative zone. The sceptical view is that the data is sugar-coated, that the Western-controlled institutions are saying nice things about Mr Modi’s economic policies because these continue to privilege ultra-market prescriptions over public need even in a bad moment. Ace communalist chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who is anything but a man of God, suddenly began to be seen as a loser in Lucknow. This coincided with the waning of the Modi electoral magic after the BJP’s near-defeat in Gujarat even among communally-inclined sections of the Hindu electorate. The RSS-BJP’s tactics to draw in the backward castes and dalits, on whose were constructed the famous wins of 2014 (Lok Sabha) and early 2017 (UP Assembly), seemed to be coming apart.
Throw into the mix serious doubts raised publicly in connection with a business venture of the BJP president’s son, and the evidently improper use of a top law officer of the Modi government to argue that matter in court, and a starkly disturbing picture emerges of the misuse of power for personal aggrandisement and a show of arrogant disregard for public norms and ethics. It’s also Mr Modi versus Congress president Rahul Gandhi, exactly as it had been in the Gujarat election, where the PM was nearly bested. The creators of wealth and providers of employment — people who had rooted for Mr Modi in 2014 — are chafing.Clearly, it’s not the CM versus BSY; it’s the CM versus PM.Over four years, Mr Modi has centralised Sanitaryware Manufacturers all authority that flows from political power around himself and his old-time acolyte through thick and thin, Amit Shah, as though he were a latter-day potentate. The PM’s refusal to speak up to defend his own honour has set tongues wagging. The two men who are seen as directly running the country under the saffron dispensation — Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah — conducted the election campaign in Gujarat, their home state, sidelining everyone else, including the chief minister. The BJP suffered humiliating defeats at the hands of the Congress, which it rightly sees as its main challenger on the national stage, rather than any of the regional parties or even a clutch of them. Two separate factors have brought this about — the complete failure of the Modi government to cater to the economic well-being of Indians and the moral degradation that has set in under "India’s first-ever Hindu government". In the case of Nirav Modi, only a mildly oblique connection is being sought to be drawn with the Prime Minister via a relative and close associate of the diamond trader.S.The BJP’s recent byelection defeats in Uttar Pradesh at the hands of the combined force of the SP and BSP served to spread panic, not just despair, in the saffron ranks.Ordinary people don’t believe any more in the World Bank and the IMF data, which talk up the Indian economy.
Their promises no longer ring true. The message to the accused is that the system will help them escape the rigours of the law. Should there be a hard landing, the familiar clapper-boys and praise-singers will melt into the shadows. And yet the result, for them, was unedifying. The incumbent Congress Party, the BJP’s principal challenger at the national level, is no write-off in Karnataka and may therefore have expectation of better things in the future. This came as a shock to the entire saffron family. Yeddyurappa and the infamous, mines-looting Bellary brothers. The silence of the PM on the ghastly specifics, and his calculated failure to call a spade, have perturbed even supporters. Their running away from the country is now being seen as assisted departure. The callousness of leading BJP figures in Jammu and UP (the Kathua and Unnao cases) have produced revulsion among ordinary folk, although the BJP remains unconcerned and resorts to sophistry. Has the Siddaramaiah government delivered on important promises? Has it taken steps to alleviate the lot of the poor? What has it done to cope with the serious water situation affecting farmers? How deep has the corruption factor been in the government? To what extent have infrastructure needs of Bengaluru and other centres been met? And, what about the dalit question? There will of course also be the usual political noise — and the BJP are masters of that game — about minority status for Lingayats and the dredging up of potted history around a historical figure, Tipu Sultan.
This is the real setback for Messers Modi and Shah.Such a view might not have gained ground if the BJP did not have to huff and puff in the Gujarat Assembly election only a few months ago.The moral degradation — now being spoken of openly in public — straddles several domains. The PM has, in fact, had to extend his campaigning. The sudden rise of diesel and petrol prices has begun to colour public perceptions all the more..The state of the economy saps public morale on a daily basis. The Karnataka Assembly election at the end of this week is being widely seen as a curtain-raiser for the unfolding electoral scenario in the country, which will climax in the gladiators’ contest for the next Lok Sabha. The names of the Rajasthan CM and the external affairs minister were openly bandied about in the Lalit Modi case. But remember, it is Mr Modi and Mr Shah leading the BJP’s charge in Karnataka, not tainted former CM B. This comes on top of the helplessness in the system caused by bad debts of the entire banking sector, not just public sector banks. When Karnataka voters cast their ballots on May 12, they will weigh several questions. Their words carry less weight than previously. That’s when the devaluation of Mr Modi began. The first signs of moral questioning came with the cases of cricket entrepreneur Lalit Modi and later diamond trader Nirav Modi. Private investment in the economy has been steadily shrinking. People also worry about sporadic public discussion that suggests that banks plan to charge customers from withdrawing their own money through ATMs, or for issuing cheques. Their low-grade, street-level jibes at political opponents do not produce mirth any more
